Earlier this week my brother sent me an image in a text message. At first glance it didn’t seem significant to me; and then I read the quote in it and everything all made sense. The image was from Alice in Wonderland and the quote was of Alice asking the white rabbit.
Alice: How long is forever?
White Rabbit: Sometimes, just one second.
And then I realized that Bill was saying that he wouldn’t see his mother forever and wondered how long that was. It brought me to tears. Once I regained my composure I realized something my mother said to me many times in my life.
“Blink your eyes and you will be my age.”
This is something that I never understood as a kid but now I have blinked my eyes twice(once and I was a grandfather, and the second time I had no living parents) and now I am where my mom was in life not that long ago. When I blink my eyes that final time I will be with my mom and dad again. While I want to enjoy the time with my grandkids and family I wonder when I blink my eyes what it will be like when I’m with my mom and dad again.
Happy Mother’s Day to my mom(and dad) who I miss very much.
Life is only a very small fraction of our existence; Time marches on long after our life; we will spend the majority of our time outside of life as we know it. So make the best of your life, live, love, laugh and appreciate those that are important to you because in the blink of an eye it can all change.
Maybe next year I will stop by the grave of my mother and father. Right now it’s a bit too much for me. It’s good that we got flowers on the grave.
Thank you Billy, Joanne and Nonie for stopping by the grave today. I’m still not ready. 🙁
